WHILE PERFORMING 'MONTERO' ON 'SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE,' LIL NAS X EXPERIENCES WARDROBE MALFUNCTION.

On Saturday (May 22), Lil Nas X made his Saturday Night Live debut, and viewers probably weren’t expecting what happened while he performed his controversial song “Montero (Call Me By Your Name).” The Grammy Award-winning artist’s pants appeared to split while he was grinding on a stripper pole.

With a startled expression on his face, Lil Nas X quickly put his hand over his crotch and resumed his performance. It wasn’t long before Lil Nas X took to Twitter to address the public pants split, writing, “NOT MY PANTS RIPPED LIVE ON TV” and “I wanted to do my pole routine so bad this is what I get lmaoo.”

The video for “MONTERO” was released in March and was met with widespread condemnation due to its Satanic imagery. Conservative Christians were particularly outraged when Lil Nas X performed a lap dance for Satan while dressed in nothing but boy shorts and thigh high leather boots.

But all of the attention benefited Lil Nas X. The video has since received over 215 million views on YouTube, and the single debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in its first week. MONTERO was even mocked during a Saturday Night Live skit.

Instead of grinding on Satan’s lap, SNL actor Chris Redd (who played Lil Nas X) gave God a lap dance. They also incorporated Lil Nas X’s controversial “Satan Shoes” and subsequent Nike lawsuit into the skit.

Naturally, Twitter erupted with reactions to the latest SNL episode’s wardrobe malfunction, which was compared to Janet Jackson’s infamous nipple slip during Super Bowl XXXVIII in 2004. Ana Gasteyer, a veteran of Saturday Night Live, chimed in with an embarrassing moment of her own.
