Portugal 2 – 4 Germany
.Germany got off to a flying start at Euro 2020, tearing Portugal apart with an outstanding attacking performance in Munich to open up Group F. Following Germany’s victory, both of these teams now have three points, one behind group leaders France, as they prepare for a crucial final round of matches on Wednesday.
Wing-back for Atalanta Robin Gosens was the architect with a goal and an assist, getting an ovation from the Allianz Arena crowd as he was substituted shortly after the hour mark. Cristiano Ronaldo had put the visitors ahead with his third goal of the tournament and 12th European Championship strike of all time.
But two own goals in five minutes in the first half transformed an interesting game in Germany’s favor, as Ruben Dias and Raphael Guerreiro both turned into their own net. After the break, the influential Gosens lay on a third with an appealing ball that allowed Kai Havertz to knock in from close range before Germa headed in. He’s aiming for Germany’s fourth place.
Diogo Jota pushed in from Ronaldo’s cutback, but the defending champions were unable to stage a comeback. Germany will host Hungary, who held France to a draw earlier in the day, while Portugal will meet the world champions in the last game, with all four nations still able to advance.
