Arsenal is one of four clubs vying to sign the 43-million-euro-rated Belgian ace who lit up the Euros.
Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, and Liverpool are all interested in Rennes winger Jeremy Doku, according to the Gazzetta Dello Sport (via Calciomercato.com). Despite Belgium’s 2-1 loss to Italy in their European Championship quarter-final clash on Friday night, the 19-year-old was highly outstanding.
Doku just moved to Rennes from Anderlecht for €25 million (£21.5 million) last summer, but according to Gazzetta, his value has more than doubled in a year. It appears improbable that the Gunners will pay €50 million (£43 million) for the Belgian teenager, given their other objectives on the pitch. With Martin Odegaard confirming on Instagram last night that he will remain at Real Madrid, the search for a replacement number 10 will become more pressing, and if they pursue Leicester’s James Maddison, it might cost them more than £60 million.
If that is the case, it is difficult to imagine Arsenal spending £40 million or more on three different players this summer, even if a deal for Brighton’s Ben White is reached.
