The Presidency on Sunday clarified the differing interpretations of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd. ),’s final statements during his visit to Imo State last Thursday.
In a statement headlined Presidency ‘What President Buhari said (didn’t say) in Imo State,’ Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, stated this.
“Misinformation purveyors,” according to Adesina, have “deliberately contorted” the president’s statement out of context.
“We have observed that President Buhari’s final words at the meeting with South-East Leaders during his one-day visit to Imo State are being purposefully bent and twisted out of context,” the statement said.
“Disinformation purveyors want Nigerians to believe that President Buhari warned Governor Uzodinma, ‘I’ll be careful with your future invitations.’
“They have given the phrase new meanings, contrary to the context in which the President said during his fruitful discourse with Igbo leaders of thought.
According to Adesina, an ecstatic Buhari expressed his gratitude for the warm reception he received and the galaxy of people that traveled from the five South Eastern states to have a heart-to-heart dialogue with him in Owerri, the capital of Imo State.
‘‘I am overwhelmed by this response,” he reported the President as adding, ‘‘I was expecting to see bridges, roads, and a few repairs when I accepted the invitation from the Imo State Governor, who wishes to justify investments the government has made to the people of Imo State.
