On Thursday, September 16, 2021, Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho’s Leicester City hosted Victor Osimhen’s Napoli in their first Group C game at the King Power Stadium in Leicester, Nigeria.
Osimhen, who scored a wonderful brace, will get all of the attention, but his compatriot had his moments as well.
Leicester City got their stride early on and took the lead via Ayoze Perez in the ninth minute.
While Napoli failed to manage the home side’s ferocity, Osimhen took advantage of every opportunity.
The Leicester City center defense duo of Jannik Vestergaard and Jonny Evans had a lot of trouble with the agile striker.
He had a shot from beyond the area stopped by Kasper Schmeichel, and he had a breakdown in the penalty box that almost resulted to a Napoli goal.
He sprinted into the box and used his head to knock the ball past Vestergaard before finding Piotr Zieliski, whose shot was superbly blocked by Timothy Castagne.
After superb work from Iheanacho, Leicester City extended their advantage in the 64th minute.
The Nigerian picked up the ball in his own half and threaded an inch-perfect pass to Harvey, who still had a lot of work to do before blasting past the Napoli goalie.
Three minutes later, Osimhen scored to pull Napoli back into the game.
The ball reached Osimhen after a series of passes near to the box, where he flicked it past -Vestergaard and forced his way past the defender before lifting the ball past Schmeichel for his goal.
He wasn’t finished yet. He equalized with a spectacular header in the 87th minute. He got his head to a cross from the right for a header that beat Schmeichel with a tremendous leap.
