There are queenpins and kingpins, and Remy Ma is about to play one of the latter.
The Terror Squad vet will make her acting debut in the upcoming BET+ film American Gangster Presents: Big Fifty – The Delronda Hood Story, according to Shadow and Act.
The film is based on the true story of legendary Detroit queenpin Delrhonda Hood, as the title suggests. Big Fifty is marketed as “the amazing, true narrative” of Hood, who is regarded as a “larger than life personality.” It is narrated by Big Hood herself.
The movie chronicles her journey through “the twists and turns of her prior life as one of Detroit’s most renowned Queenpins to her route to salvation.”
Tank, Empire’s Ta’Rhonda Jones, Raising Dion’s Michael Anthony, comedian Pretty Vee, and All American’s Mike Merrill are among the main cast members.
Big Fifty is a film written by Gabrielle Collins and directed by Russ Parr, an award-winning radio broadcaster, writer, producer, and director. The title track is Remy Ma’s single “The Godmother.”
The film is presented by BET’s American Gangster, which broadcast a spinoff series in 2019 called American Gangster: Trap Queens. Hood’s ascent to fame in the criminal world, following collapse, and ultimate redemption were all covered in an episode of the show.
Remy Ma has had a run-in with the law of her own. She was convicted guilty of two assault charges in 2008 after an altercation with her friend Makeda Barnes-Joseph. As the two women battled in a car, Barnes-Joseph was shot twice.
She was released from Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women in 2014 after serving six years.
On September 30, Big Fifty will premiere on BET+.
